"Seeing other people like me who are in such high ranking positions and just in an established career in such a large company is fantastic to me. I got to see a video from Black History Month called “A Walk in my Shoes” that basically celebrated a lot of black achievement around the country and around the world and how much someone like me can kind of impact those around me. That really helped. I really want to make an impact on those around me."
Joshua Porter, Business Intelligence Intern
"The project goal was to test the distribution force in each ply of a 3-ply girder applied from a top chord bearing truss. The team expected that the reaction in the girder plies would be higher the closer the ply is to the tie-in truss due to the top chord deflection. The results from the project will enable trusses to be designed more accurately and economically. To test their hypothesis, the team first used MiTek software to design the trusses and perform model testing. The next step was to build the trusses and physically test them, followed by analyzing the data. The test results showed an unexpected result, indicating that the second ply took the majority of the load, rather than the first ply as expected."
