Job Description

A full-time permanent position is available for a structural engineer (non-engineer could be considered) to join our team. The successful applicant will be working alongside an industry-leading team of experts who provide highly specialized design and product solutions for the light-framed wood & cold-form steel construction industries. The position is an in-office hybrid position which can be based out of the Mirabel, Quebec location.

La candidate ou le candidat retenu collaborera au sein d’une équipe d’experts chevronnés dans l’industrie afin de fournir des solutions de conception et de produits spécialisées pour le secteur de la construction avec charpentes en bois et en acier plié à froid. Il s’agit d’un poste hybride (travail sur place et à la maison) basé à Mirabel, au Québec.

The design engineer (or non-engineer) will be actively involved in the design, analysis and detailing of structural wood roof/floor truss components for projects ranging from residential buildings to large, complex commercial and agricultural structures. This role is ideal for P.Eng candidates who have an interest in being part of a software technology ecosystem which combines structural engineering design practice with building information modeling (BIM) software technologies.

La conceptrice ou le concepteur travaillera activement à la conception, à l’analyse et aux dessins d’exécution des composants structurels de poutre de plafond ou de plancher pour des projets allants des bâtiments résidentiels aux structures commerciales ou agricoles complexes. Ce rôle est l’idéal pour les personnes détenant un titre d’ingénieur et souhaitant participer à l’écosystème des technologies logicielles combinant des pratiques de conception d’ingénierie des structures et de modélisation des données du bâtiment.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

• Design of structural wood trusses based on CSA O86 and TPIC-2019 Design Standards

• Design of steel components based on CSA S16.1 and CSA S136.

• 3D structural software modelling and design, including connection design, framing specifications

• Design of field modification details for retrofits of existing structural systems

• Client facing design support and establishing expert-level usage of MITEK’s 2D/3D BIM software

• Product Development / Product testing as required

• Optional Minimal travel (0%-5%)

Responsabilités et exigences du poste

• Conception de fermes en bois structurelles respectant les normes CSA O86 et TPIC-2019

• Conception de composants en acier selon les normes CSA S16.1 et CSA S136

• Modélisation et conception logicielle de structures 3D, y compris la conception d’éléments de connexion et de spécifications de charpentes

• Conception des détails de modification sur place pour le réaménagement des systèmes structurels existant

• Soutien de la conception côté client dans le but de favoriser une utilisation de niveau expert du logiciel de modélisation des données du bâtiment 2D/3D de MiTek

• Développement de produit, tests de produit (selon les besoins)

• Déplacements minimums (optionnel, de 0 à 5 % du temps)

Knowledge, Credentials and Experience

• P.Eng. registered professional Engineer in good standing licensed to practice engineering in the province of Quebec (eventually all 4 maritime provinces too) is ideal

• Minimum five years of experience in the building construction industry, the light-frame wood truss industry, steel design industry or the engineered wood product (EWP) industry

• Demonstrated knowledge of structural framing practices a`s they relate to wood construction

• Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada as well as regional provincial codes

• Expert-Level software learning abilities with advanced knowledge of MS Office, especially Excel

• Must be able to fluently communicate in French and English.

• Working Knowledge of Cold-Form-Steel design codes and practices is an asset

• Must be able to interact with different types of stakeholders of varying technical knowledge

• Must be a self-starter with an ability to balance independent work with minimum supervision, while being a contributing member of a highly skilled technical team

• Must be comfortable educating customers of MiTek engineering processes and technical and codes/standards material

Connaissances, titres et expérience

• Ingénieur professionnel doté d’un permis d’exercice en règle de la profession dans la province du Québec (éventuellement, dans les quatre provinces maritimes; situation idéale)

• Au moins cinq ans d’expérience dans l’industrie de la construction de bâtiments, des structures légères en bois, des produits de bois d’ingénierie ou à titre de dessinateur-modéliste

• Connaissances démontrées des pratiques de charpente associée aux constructions en bois

• Connaissances pratiques du Code National du Bâtiment du Canada et des codes provinciaux et régionaux connexes

• Capacité à apprendre de nouveaux logiciels à un niveau expert et connaissance avancée des outils de la suite bureautique MS Office, notamment Excel

• En mesure de communiquer couramment en français et en anglais

• Connaissances et mise en pratique des codes de conception pour l’acier plié à froid un atout

• Interactions avec différents types d’intervenants présentant des connaissances techniques variées

• Doit faire preuve d’initiative et être en mesure d’équilibrer la réalisation d’un travail indépendant avec un minimum de supervision, tout en contribuant de manière active aux réalisations de l’équipe technique chevronnée
