The Machinist will set up and operate conventional manual lathe machine using Lean and 5S methodologies to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts.

The Machinist will set up and operate conventional manual lathe machine using Lean and 5S methodologies to fabricate metallic and non-metallic parts. 

What You Will Do:

Responsibilities
  • Identifies different types and sizes of steel needed for the job (primarily HRS and CRS)
  • Interprets blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, work orders, and sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements
  • Set up and operate turning machine to turn, bore, thread, or face metal materials
  • Work from drawings and written instructions to create parts for customer-specific equipment with precision/close tolerances
  • Ability to read and understand a tape measure, 12-inch scale, micrometers, calipers, and other measuring devices (Imperial and Metric)
  • Inspect finished parts and record results
  • Maintain clean and organized work area
  • Select Appropriate cutting tools, speeds and feeds for machining operations
  • Attendance at work during the regularly scheduled shift is an essential duty. This includes but is not limited to the ability to be present at work, arrive on time and be at the workstation ready for work at the start of the shift, and work mandatory overtime when necessary


Qualifications
  • High School/GED required
  • 3+ Years Experience in manufacturing or job shop environment preferred
  • Able to perform mathematical skills such as calculating proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume and able to apply concepts of basic geometry
  • Technical School Certificate preferred

Soft Skills
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance)
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Computer Skills: Windows Operating System
  • Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization
  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form

    Physical Demands
    This is a physical position that requires the individual to be able to: stand, walk and carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull, climb, walk up stairs and crouch. This position requires the individual to be able to communicate through speaking and hearing.
