Job Description

The Senior Engineer of Codes, Standards & Product Testing serves as a senior technical expert responsible for leading industry regulatory compliance initiatives that support product development, market access, complex testing and code approvals. The Senior Engineer drives strategy, sets testing and regulatory compliance direction for new products, represents MiTek in external regulatory and standards committees, and develops and conducts building code official training. This role combines applying advanced knowledge of building codes, standards, and evaluation criteria (e.g., ASTM, ICC-ES, IAPMO) and deep expertise in physical product testing. The Senior Engineer also mentors junior engineers, influences design decisions, and ensure timely and successful execution of technically demanding projects.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

This role will work a hybrid schedule based out of our Earth City, MO plant.  

Responsibilities:

  • Represent MiTek in strategic codes & standards committees, and provide technical support to TPI and SBCA as needed.

  • Review codes & standards proposals to determine if they are in the best interest of MiTek and the wood truss industry as a whole, and then take action accordingly.

  • Conduct building code official training classes (in-person and virtual).

  • Develop and maintain MiTek Continuing Education Unit (CEU) training programs including updates to codes & standards, and ICC, AIA and NCSEA accreditations.

  • Review ANSI Standards Action postings weekly and notify appropriate MiTek team members of developments (EPT, CX Engineering, Automation R&D).

  • Join national and regional professional associations including ASCE/SEI and NCSEA.

  • Lead the development and implementation of regulatory strategies and complex test plans for innovative or high-impact products.

  • Serve as a subject matter expert in building codes, standards, and evaluation criteria; provide authoritative guidance to internal teams.

  • Design and oversee advanced physical testing, including custom setups or non-standard protocols.

  • Analyze test data and conduct structural, statistical, and performance-based evaluations to support technical documentation and decision-making.

  • Prepare and peer-review high-quality technical documents including code reports, product listings, and technical bulletins.

  • Act as the primary technical liaison with regulatory agencies (e.g., ICC-ES, IAPMO) and industry bodies, leading responses to technical challenges and audits.

  • Proactively monitor changes in codes and standards; assess potential business impacts and communicate recommended actions.

  • Mentor and train junior and mid-level engineers in testing methodology, regulatory compliance best practices, and professional development.

  • Champion continuous improvement in testing protocols, regulatory compliance workflows, and knowledge-sharing across the organization.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or related field required

  • 6+ years of related experience with PE (Civil or Structural) from any State Board

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Applications

  • Excellent planning, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills

  • Ability to foster new and existing relationships with a variety of personality types

  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact frequently with stakeholders and cross functional teams

  • Excellent technical writing skills

  • Equivalent combination of experience and education which clearly indicates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position may substitute on a year for year basis

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters in Civil Engineering

  • Previous experience working with building codes and standards

  • Ability to understand building codes and product standards and the development processes they are created under
