Job Responsibilities & Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY

Set up and operate steel slitting equipment to process master coil material into slit ribbons according to customer specifications. Responsible for material handling, equipment setup, quality inspections, inventory transactions, production reporting, and maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Operate large forklifts or overhead cranes (with proper training) to load/unload master coils or other materials from rail cars and/or trucks.
  • Package and load all outgoing shipments. 
  • Set up slitter head to slit material as required.
  • Operate slitting machine and monitor gauges to ensure correct speeds are maintained.
  • Verify slit width, coil weight, edge quality, material thickness, and packaging requirements using measuring equipment and documented quality standards.
  • Operate hand scanner and able to navigate menu to perform required action.
  • Complete daily production reports.
  • Complete Quality Control documents and perform required checks.
  • Perform cycle counts and take part in physical inventory processes.
  • Perform daily routine maintenance.
  • Attendance at work during the regularly scheduled shift is an essential duty.  This includes, but is not limited to the ability to work overtime as required, to be present at work, arrive on time and be at the workstation ready for work at the start of the shift.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required. One to three years of manufacturing, steel processing, slitting, material handling, or related industrial experience preferred.

Language Skills:

Effectively communicate with co-workers and management regarding work and safety issues.  Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos.  Write simple correspondence, and effectively present information one-on-one to customers and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

Reasoning Ability:

Apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Comprehend job training and safety instructions.
 

Computer Skills:

Basic computer skills required, including the ability to utilize scanners, production reporting systems, inventory systems, and email applications.

Certificates & Licenses

Forklift Certified, Crane Certified.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Read a tape measure, micrometers, calipers, galvometers, and other measuring devices as required. Experience operating steel slitting lines, decoilers, recoilers, fork trucks, overhead cranes, and related material handling equipment preferred.
