Job Description

As a key player in the Engineering Software Product Management team under the Digital Design Solutions group, the Software Product Manager will be leading projects that provide engineered software solutions for the building industry. The qualified candidate will work with cross-functional teams to address customer needs and support our internal stakeholders. This person will act as a product owner for project Scrum teams and will be active in the conceptualization, planning, execution, and delivery of various software projects. The Software Product Manager will primarily focus on our flagship software, MiTek Structure, and other engineering-centric software solutions. This position will play a critical role in shaping and executing our strategy to deliver high quality and scalable engineering software solutions to customers. Although we are looking an experienced candidate to join our team, less experienced candidates with a strong engineering aptitude are encouraged to apply and may be considered for an entry-level position as an Associate Product Manager. Likewise, more qualified candidates may be considered for a Senior Product Manager role. This position is open to candidates in U.S. or Canada.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

What You Will Do:

  • Ability to prioritize and align projects with overall product vision and business goals.

  • Present roadmap and demo new features to stakeholders, leadership, and customers.

  • Define and track key metrics to measure the success and impact of new software solutions.

  • Cultivate relationships and engagements with customers and internal stakeholders to inform the prioritization and execution of specific software solutions.

  • Collaborate with regional and global cross-functional teams, including software development, quality assurance, engineering, technical support, sales, and marketing.

  • Write technical software specifications that comply with applicable building codes and design standards governing the design and specification of structural components (trusses, beams, joists, walls, posts, and connections) for residential, commercial, and agricultural buildings.

  • Act as a product owner in Scrum teams to ensure timely and successful execution and delivery of projects, while maintaining a strong focus on code-compliance and quality.

  • Be the subject matter expert for MiTek software products with a deep understanding of the technology in terms of benefits, limitations, and future potential.

  • Up to 20% of time raveling, including overnight trips and/or international travel


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (preferably Civil or Structural, but open to other engineering disciplines for strong candidates).

  • 2+ years of experience in product/project management, or other roles involved with the specification, development, or testing of software products, preferably structural analysis software.

  • 2+ years of experience working as a Design Engineer, or equivalent experience requiring the application of engineering principles and knowledge.

  • Strong technical skills and grasp of engineering fundamentals.

  • Excellent planning, communication, presentation, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to bring clarity and order to competing priorities and unmet customer needs.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.

  • Knowledgeable of product management methodologies and their applications.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Registered Professional Engineer in any U.S. state or Canadian province (desired but not required).

  • Experience as a Design Engineer in the building industry extremely valuable.

  • Experience working in as a Product Owner and running Scrum teams in an Agile software development environment.

  • Experience with developing structural analysis software for the building industry.

  • Working knowledge of U.S./Canadian building codes, loading standards, and design standards for wood construction.
