Job Description

The Welding Team Lead is responsible for directing daily operations within the department and must have experience in a production environment. This role requires strong interpersonal and collaborative skills, along with a comprehensive understanding of all production support functions. A solid knowledge of manufacturing principles, especially Lean manufacturing, is essential.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

What You Will Do:

Responsibilities

  • Supports plant supervision in leading a department in the execution of daily production tasks, training, and continuous improvement  

  • Work closely with the Production Supervisor to plan and control activities of the assigned department

  • Ensure routed production materials are issued/or received on the production floor and located accurately by the team in a timely manner

  • Address safety concerns with team members immediately to prevent injuries and production hazards, and promptly follow up with supervision as needed

  • Ensure all team members wear protective gear during production and monitor compliance with safety instructions throughout the team

  • Ensure team members are performing inspections correctly

  • Maintain a clean and organized work area

  • Actively engage in training and on-the-job development opportunities to advance competency in the MiTek Leadership Blueprint

  • Ensure ERP/MRP production transactions are done correctly and in a timely manner

  • Identify areas for improvement and lead efforts to drive efficiencies, fostering team growth at the site

  • Provide support to and serve as backup for the Supervisor

  • Ensure timely identification and resolution of issues impacting production

  • Maintain positive employee relations and adhere to Company policies, safety standards, and good housekeeping practices

  • Work closely with other Plant departments to address and resolve issues

  • Work with local manufacturing engineering group to implement efficient and effective Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) that production employees are trained against

  • Ability to work overtime as needed to meet production deadlines and operational demands


Qualifications

  • High School/GED required

  • 3+ Years Experience in manufacturing, production, or warehouse environment  preferred

  • Ability to work with micrometers, calipers, and other precision measuring devices, a plus
    required

  • Read and understand engineering drawings and specifications, plus required

  • Experience in MRP Software, a plus preferred

  • Experience in RF Scanners, a plus preferred

  • Able to use Microsoft Office Applications

  • Forklift Experience preferred


Soft Skills

  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos

  • Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization

  • Showcase good leadership/motivation skills to lead different people with different abilities and character traits

  • Swift learner and an excellent coach to train their teammates and so would be expected to have excellent problem-solving skills to effectively handle the challenges and problems in the production department expected to understand the importance of time management and be always proactive

Physical Demands
This is a physical position that requires the individual to be able to: stand, walk and carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull, walk up stairs and crouch. This position requires the individual to be able to communicate through speaking and hearing.
